AUGMENTED REALITY; TECHNOLOGY TO DEVELOP READING FOR CHILDREN WITH LEARNING DISABILITIES IN INCLUSIVE EDUCATION

Abstract

This research adopted research and development approach using a mixed-methods technique, with the following objectives 1) develop a learning model and augmented reality suitable for children with learning disabilities in inclusive school; and 2) evaluate the effectiveness of              a learning model and augmented reality. Inclusive education ensures that every individual is getting the right to an equal quality without discrimination. Technology in general and augmented reality especially have significant opportunities to deliver a better learning outcome for children with learning disabilities. As revealed in the findings, the 3REAL learning practices that additionally use AR technology improve reading competence and quality of children's understanding of Thai language in inclusive classrooms. Based on the 3R's teaching, with augmented reality integration to this model can encourage more participation, accessibility and in transferring of knowledge. The positive experiences and results, in terms of time taken to observe improvements in language skills also validated by experts indicate that this approach is worth implementing in different educational settings. This research suggests the crucial requirements of using novel technologies (augmented reality) to make inclusive educational practices more supportive toward children with disabilities and develop better learning environments. In addition AR provides for real life experiences of different social situation and languages and it deepens the understanding of every cultural. The results show that AR can help the student with challenges with learning as well as inspire collaborative effort across different learning environments. The study highlights the need for integrating different type of innovate technologies into inclusive education practices that cater the diverse needs of all students. Nevertheless, it also reminds us what inclusion really means: every child knowing and accepting the differences in society.
